 What

 This web site chronicles my foray into baking and cooking beginning with and featuring prominently: Pie.  

I am somewhat of an amateur. Most of the photographs on this site document my second attempt at whatever is pictured. I've made an effort to cite recipes I use, but most of the recipes are my own inventions - Frankensteins borne of browsing the blogs of bakers far more accomplished than myself (this also accounts for the abundance of approximations in the ingredient lists). 

 Why

A few reasons: 

  • The site is an easy way to record & photo-document all of my recipes, which exist in analog form as a collection of badly preserved post-it notes, not long for this earth. This does not suit my librarian self, so they must be preserved some place besides my hazardous kitchen (which has been the site of much trauma and many disasters to paper-based things...)

  • Pie-helplessness is an epidemic. Not enough people know how to make pies, and this creates a second tragically pervasive condition: pie-deprivation. In creating and tending to this site, I have eradicated my own case of pie-helplessness (and in so doing, my pie-deprivation has also been addressed. And then some). Perhaps viewers of this site will be inspired to cure themselves as well.
